The Wiseco Performance Forged Clutch Basket is a heavy-duty, race-proven driveline upgrade engineered to replace weak cast aluminum OEM clutch baskets that notch, groove, and fail under aggressive motocross and supercross riding. Stock cast baskets quickly develop saw-tooth notches along the clutch tang fingers from repeated clutch dumps and hard acceleration. These notches prevent clutch plates from sliding freely, causing severe clutch drag, erratic lever feel, slipping under load, and difficult neutral selection.

Wiseco eliminates this common failure by precision-forging the clutch basket from aerospace-grade aluminum alloy, aligning the grain structure to achieve incredible impact toughness and fatigue resistance. The basket is fully CNC finish-machined and treated with an advanced hard-anodized and Teflon-impregnated coating. This coating creates a rock-hard, ultra-slick surface that resists plate grooving for hundreds of race hours while allowing the clutch friction and steel plates to glide effortlessly. Large oiling holes and channels are machined into the basket walls, channeling engine oil directly into the clutch pack to dissipate heat, reduce clutch fade, and prolong plate lifespan.

  • Manufacturing Process: Precision forged aerospace-grade aluminum alloy
  • Surface Treatment: Hard-anodized and Teflon-impregnated coating
  • Oil Flow Optimization: CNC-machined oil flow channels across basket walls
  • Included Fasteners: Grade 8 hex bolts with pre-applied thread locking compound
  • Hardware Integration: Includes replacement elastomer backing cushions

### Step-by-Step Installation & Safety Protocols Installation requires a clutch holding tool, drill press or hand drill, and a torque wrench. Drain engine/transmission oil and remove the clutch cover. Remove the clutch springs, pressure plate, and clutch pack. Use a clutch holding tool to hold the inner hub and remove the main clutch center nut. Extract the OEM basket and gear assembly. Drill out the factory rivets holding the stock primary ring gear to the back of the OEM cast basket. Separate the gear and rubber cushions. Transfer the ring gear and new rubber backing cushions to the Wiseco forged basket, securing with the included high-strength Allen bolts and thread locker. Reinstall the basket, inner hub, clutch plates, pressure plate, and torque all fasteners to factory specs.

### Maintenance & Inspection Protocol Maintenance involves inspecting the basket fingers during annual clutch plate replacements and keeping engine oil clean. Check clutch cable/hydraulic free play regularly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why do OEM cast clutch baskets notch so quickly?

A: Factory baskets are made from brittle cast aluminum. Under aggressive acceleration, the steel tangs of the clutch plates repeatedly hammer into the soft cast fingers, quickly creating deep grooves that trap the plates.

Q: Do I reuse my stock primary ring gear with the Wiseco basket?

A: Yes. The Wiseco kit includes replacement fasteners and rubber cushion hardware, allowing you to transfer your factory primary drive gear from your old cast basket to the new Wiseco forged basket.

Q: How does the Teflon-impregnated hard coat improve clutch performance?

A: The Teflon coating provides a self-lubricating, ultra-low friction barrier that allows clutch plates to engage and disengage instantly, resulting in smoother lever modulation and eliminating clutch chatter.

Q: What torque is required for the backing plate screws?

A: Torque the supplied backing plate Allen screws to 12-14 Nm using high-strength red thread locker on clean, degreased threads.
